The Combined Federal Campaign for 2008 celebrated surpassing this year’s goal of $52,000.00 and raising $68,190.91, at an Awards Breakfast, held on January 9, 2009 at the Allenwood Federal Prison Training Center.Jerry Martinez, Warden, LSCI Allenwood, and Chairperson for the 2008 CFC set a goal of $52,000. Of the $68,190.91 raised, half of the amount was allocated to local agencies throughout the seven counties of the North Central Pennsylvania CFC. The counties include Lycoming, Clinton, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Schuylkill and Union counties. Lycoming County received the largest designations of $9,897.00
An incentive for the employees is to achieve the status of Eagle Award by making a contribution of $500.00 or more. This year’s campaign yielded the highest number of Eagle Awards with 63 Eagles. 48 Eagles were awarded in 2007 and prior to 2007, the largest number of eagle awards was 51. Before 2005, the average number of Eagles was 18. The generosity of the federal employees who contribute to the campaign help those in need through their contributions toover 800 local, national and international organizations that provide services and assistance to those in need.
The Lycoming County United Way is the approved Principal Combined Fund Organization (PCFO), which means the Lycoming County United Way was selected and approved to administer the local campaign.
Nationwide federal workers have participated in a national workplace giving effort since 1961 when President Kennedy initiated a formal giving program for federal workers. Since then, the CFC has evolved into the nation’s leading workplace giving program. The CFC is the only campaign authorized for charitable solicitation permitted in the Federal workplace and is conducted for only a six-week period sometime between September 1 and December 15. It is conducted in accordance with regulations issued by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Washington, D.C.
The CFC affords federal civilian employees and members of the uniformed services the opportunity to contribute to local, national, and international human health and welfare organizations. The CFC is the only charitable campaign authorized to conduct federal on-the-job solicitation and to use payroll deductions. The money raised is designed to charities nationwide. These charities must apply and be approved as designated charities. This campaign included twenty-seven local charities twenty-one charities that provide services throughout the seven counties of the North Central Pennsylvania Combined Federal Campaign.
