Williamsport – With start of the Major League Baseball season this week, no less than 17 former Williamsport players are listed on Opening Day Rosters.

The former players and their years(s) in Williamsport include:

OF-Chris Duffy/Milwaukee Brewers (2001)

P-Mike Wuertz/Oakland A’s (1998)

OF-Rajai Davis/Oakland A’s (2001 & 2002)

P-Ian Snell/Pittsburgh Pirates (2001)

P-Paul Maholm/Pittsburgh Pirates (2003)

P-Matt Capps/Pittsburgh Pirates (2004)

C-Ryan Doumit/Pittsburgh Pirates (2000)

OF-Eric Hinske/Pittsburgh Pirates (1996)

The 17 players will combine to earn a reported $27.25 million in salaries for the 2009 season.

In all, over 475 players who have played in Major League Baseball, have worn a Williamsport professional baseball uniform. The list includes Hall-of-Famers such as Nolan Ryan (1966), Bill Mazeroski (1955 & 1955) and baseball’s newest Hall-of-Famer Jim Rice (1971).
