Non-Profit:Red Cross going strong

MILTON — Despite rumors to the contrary, the Upper Northumberland County Chapter of the American Red Cross is not closing or merging with another chapter.Tom Szulanczyk, executive director, said Tuesday the chapter enjoys strong community support and remains fiscally strong.

“Nothing is changing,” he said. “All our local chapters are fiscally sound.”

Szulanczyk said the national Red Cross organization has been struggling since Hurricane Katrina and has been forced to downsize and reorganize, but the local organizations plan to continue as they are.

“The employees here today will be here as long as they want to be,” he said.

The national office has asked local chapters to work smarter and share resources and supplies, including human resources, said Szulanczyk. Chapter leaders from Milton, Sunbury, Snyder County, Union County and Williamsport are working together to become more efficient.

“We’re exploring ways to share with neighboring chapters in an effort to maximize our ability to serve the community,” Szulanczyk concluded. “No one is getting outsized or downsized.” Source: www.dailyitem.com
