Williamsport – A major road work project along a two-mile section of Route 220 and Interstate 180 from Arch Street to Hepburn Street in Williamsport is scheduled to start next week. The work will involve milling and resurfacing, including total reconstruction from Arch Street to the US 15 Interchange at Lycoming Creek, repairs to eight bridges and new highway lighting.

The first phase of work will be a drainage improvement for the westbound median shoulder in the area of Maynard Street (Exit 28). This work will require a lane shift in the westbound direction with temporary concrete barrier in both the eastbound and westbound directions. The repair work for the eight bridges will also begin now and continue throughout the project.

Future phases of this project will require single-lane traffic conditions in the reconstruction area near the US 15 Interchange and the detour of the US 220 northbound to US 15 northbound ramp.

Motorists are strongly urged to pay full attention to their driving when approaching and passing through the work zone. Be alert for slow-moving or stopped traffic ahead. Drive defensively. Obey the posted work-zone speed limit. Refrain from multi-tasking and tailgating. Drive alert, sober, and always buckle up.

Eastern Industries Inc., the prime contractor for the $7.4 million dollar project, will begin work on Monday, March 30.

The project is scheduled for completion by November of this year.
