Exhibit: Spring Planting

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College will present a solo exhibition by Erik Sanner titled “spring planting” March 20 to April 10 in the Digital Media Gallery in the Mass Communications Building. The exhibition opening will be held Friday, March 20, from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibit and opening are free and open to the public.Sanner’s exhibition, “spring planting,” was initially conceived as the third of four new media installations which attempt to “paint” an experience of the seasons. Each piece utilizes computer processing to constantly shift video sequences in space and time. The new media installation is an interactive work which grows like a garden, revealing more of itself to the viewer as it is tended to.

Ultimately, “spring planting” expanded from a single work by a solo artist to an exhibition of multiple new pieces by several artists working in collaboration. Other artists participating in the exhibition are Pat Arnao, Jeffrey Chuang, Linda Griggs, Judson, Philippa Kaye, Cynthia Ruse, Erik Sanner, Sarah Schmerler, Katharine Staelin, Linda Stillman and Susan Woolf.

Sanner states, “Gardening is all about growth. I believe that when we collaborate with other artists, we come up with ideas nobody would have thought of on their own, and the resulting work expands beyond the scope of what we are capable of imagining alone – a transcribed conversation between muses.”

Sanner is a New York-based artist and has exhibited in New York, New Jersey and Japan. He is a two-time recipient of the Manhattan Community Arts Fund grant from the NYC department of Cultural Affairs and the Lower Manhattan Council.

Founded in 1812 in Williamsport, Pa., Lycoming College is a national liberal arts and sciences institution dedicated to the undergraduate education of more than 1,400 students. Lycoming is one of the 50 oldest colleges in the nation. For more information, visit http://www.lycoming.edu.
