HARRISBURG – Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming) today welcomed the Montoursville Area High School Girls’ Soccer Team to the state Capitol to honor them on the floor of the House for winning the 2008 Class AA Girls’ Soccer Championship.”I am proud to honor such an outstanding group of student athletes with a citation from the House of Representatives,” said Everett “This accomplishment was not without a lot of hard work and dedication and these girls deserve our recognition.”

After a crushing loss in the district playoffs to archrival Loyalsock, the girls could have given up and accepted defeat. Fortunately for the Montoursville girls’ soccer team they played well enough to earn a place in the state tournament. The girls’ soccer team went on to beat South Park 3-1 to finish off their state championship run.

“These girls showed great resiliency when they came back from defeat to earn the first state title for Montoursville Area High School since 1992 when the boys’ baseball team won the title,” Everett added. “The Montoursville Area High School girls’ soccer team’s closeness and team chemistry allowed them to band together during hard times and in the end accomplish their goals.”

The Montoursville Area High School Girls’ soccer team members include: Audra Larson, Lindi Crist, Hailey Stoner, Lauren Dawes, Adrienne DiFiore, Marissa Spitler, Leah Winner, Emily Stubler, Tesa McKibben, Briana Spitler, Nikita Bonnell, Abbie Derone, Alana Myers, Alyssa Boyer, Amy Vanderlin, Alyssa Crawford, Lauren Campbell, Hayley Shaw, Jenna Kennedy, Katie Minnick, Brittany Jones, Megan Croyle and Olivia Hanner.

“The girls’ soccer team had many stars, but I wanted to especially highlight the accomplishment of Tesa McKibben, who was named to the All State Team,” Everett said. “Additionally, the girls had excellent guidance from their head coach Erin Bennett and assistant coaches Lance Spitler, Michael Bennett and Jeff Bennett, who led them to their state championship victory.”

On the House floor, Everett presented Head Coach Bennett and assistant coach Spitler with a citation from the House of Representations celebrating the Montoursville Area High School Girls’ Soccer Team championship.
