Open House to Feature Free Skills Information Session for Adults

Williamsport – For adults seeking the skills needed to succeed in a changing world, Pennsylvania College of Technology is offering a free information session during its Open House event on Saturday, March 28.The informal one-hour session is appropriate for all adults and will help participants discover how one class, or a few years of classes, can help them achieve their full potential. No college experience is required.

The sessions will be offered from 9-10 a.m. and noon-1 p.m. in Room 133 of the college’s Center for Business & Workforce Development, 1127 W. Fourth St.

Participants will learn about a wide variety of education and training opportunities from short-term classes — with no tests or grades — to certificate, associate- and bachelor-degree programs.

Attendees can learn how to:

* Use technology for better results on the job and at home

* Develop specific skills in short-term classes (no exams, no grades)

* Gain credit for work/life experience to get started in college classes

According to the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Center for Education Statistics, 90 percent of the fastest-growing jobs require at least some college, and 75 percent of future positions are expected to require at least some type of certification or licensure.

Professions that require a bachelor’s degree are projected to grow at twice the rate of the national average. Of the 7 million projected job openings between now and 2016, 78 percent are expected to be in the areas of health care, education and technology.

The free adult workshops are being presented by Workforce Development & Continuing Education; the Admissions Office; Counseling, Career and Disability Services; the School of Health Sciences; and College Information and Community Relations at Penn College.

No pre-registration is required. For more information, visit http://www.pct.edu/adult.
