Lycoming men’s lacrosse falls 13-7 to No. 7 Ithaca

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — In Lycoming College’s home opener against No. 7 Ithaca College, the Warriors fell by a score 13-7 on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Ed Williams led Lycoming with two goals and one assist.The Bombers struck first, grabbing an early 3-0 lead as Nic Heckman, Chris Carman and Devin Weinshank each scored. Carman and Kevin Bush picked up assists in the series. Williams tallied his first goal with 5:34 left in first quarter, driving down the right side and sticking the shot in the top corner, registering the final goal of the period.

Brad Shaeffer tallied the next goal for the Warriors, cutting through the crease and receiving a pass from Ricky DeNenno at 8:21 in the second. Ithaca closed the first half with two goals from Bush and Mike Giunta, ending the half with a close 5-2 Bomber advantage.

Lycoming scored the first goal of the second half, with Chris Berube driving the right lane and putting the ball in the net, closing the distance to 5-3 Ithaca. But two quick goals by Neuman and Nick Heckman at 11:37 and 11:03 put distance between the Warriors for a 7-3 advantage.

Andrew Stoner and Nate Walter paired up, with Stoner sticking the shot at 10:16 in the fourth to get the Warriors to within four, 9-5. Another run by Ithaca put the advantage to 13-5. The Warriors were able to capitalize twice more, with Walter putting away a pass from Williams, and Stoner scoring as the game clock wound down.

In the net for Lycoming, Kyle Gilfoy made a game-high 16 saves. He led the Warriors in groundballs with five, while Kevin Devenney picked up four ground balls and created two caused turnovers.

Lycoming will be back in action this weekend as it travels to SUNY-Maritime in Throggs Neck, N.Y. on Saturday, Feb. 28. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
