By Ken Myers

Williamsport, PA-The Williamsport Millionaires and the University City Jaguars have traditionally played the last gane of the regular season for approximately 20 years. It’s been a good rivalry, and it usually helps the Millionaires in preparation for district and state playoffs.

In the girls-boys doubleheader last night at the Williamsport Area High School Gymnasium, the Millionaires earned a split losing the girls game 66-61 and winning the boys game 82-68. The Lady Millionaires finish the season 9-13, while their male counterparts are 19-3. The Jaguar men’s team rode back to West Philadelphia 12-9.

Jadiah Lynch led all scorers with 25 points including 5 3 point baskets. Sean Ruane added 19 for the Millionaires including 5 3 point baskets, and Dontahe Jordan had a “quiet” 10 points. Kevin Garris led the Jaguars with 21 points, while Marcus Holland added 19 points including 16 in the first half.

Jadiah Lynch opened up the scoring for the Millionaires with a 3 pointer 16 seconds into the game. Marcus Holland answered back with a bucket 37 seconds later for the Jaguars. Holland kept the Jaguars close in the first period by scoring their first 10 points. The Millionaires would erupt for 15 points in the first three minutes before things would settle down. It was 2 high octane teams racing up and down the floor. Adter the opening period, the Millionaires led 22-14.

The Jaguars would wake up in the second period and throughly outplay the Millionaires outscoring them 26-16. They had a 8-0 run early in the second period holding the Millionaires scoreless for 3:13. This made the Millionaire faithful very restless and annoyed on Senior Night. At halftime, the Jaguars led 40-38.

Apparently, the halftime speech by Millionaire coach Allen Taylor worked as they outscored the Jaguars 44-28 in the second half to salt the game away. The Millionaires would regaain the lead for good on a bucket by Dontahe Jordan with 6:29 left in the third period. They would continue to increase their lead, and at the turn for home, the Millionaires led 58-53.

The Millionaires would put the gas pedal to the floor in the final period wearing out the Jaguars. They had no answer for the Millionaires’ press, and they were making coach Lou Williams very annoyed at their play with numerous turnovers. The biggest lead for the Millionaires was 16 points.

The outside shooting was a huge factor in the Millionaires’ win. They made 11 3 pointers, while the Jaguars only had 1 3 pointer. But the game was also very sloppy. The Millionares had 27 turnovers, and they also forced 30 Jaguar turnovers.

There was no JV game last night.
