ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — In a pivotal conference match-up between the Lycoming College women’s basketball team and Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, Feb. 11, the Lady Warriors used a strong 39-point second half to up-end the Blue Jays 65-52, and improve their playoff hopes.

With the win, Lycoming improves to 15-6 overall and 4-5 in the Commonwealth Conference. Elizabethtown slips to 10-13 and 3-7 in the conference.

Lycoming jumped out to an early 9-0 lead as Andrea Cooper hit a pair of jumpers in the first two minutes. Rebecca Leid chipped in layup and Allison Mock knocked down a three-pointer. The Blue Jays clawed back to within two as Megan Romano hit jump shot at 14:00.

But the Warriors regained an eight-point lead at 9:52 when Cooper stepped back and buried a three ball. Megan Quinn got Elizabethtown to within three as she hit her own deep shot at 4:22. The Lady Warriors maintained their lead heading into half time, up 26-23.

The Lady Warriors got things going in the second half, as Cooper hit a jump shot to boost Lycoming up by five. After that, Lycoming took control of the game, going up by 10 points at 13:01 and taking a 41-31 lead when Alicia Engler hit a shot from beyond the arc.

The Lady Warriors lead dipped below double figures when Elizabethtown’s Megan Strohman hit a mid-range jumper to get within nine. Jessica Zerbee gave Lycoming its biggest lead of the game (15) at 1:43, as she converted on the back-end of a pair of free throws.

Cooper and Leid both lead in scoring with 17 and both grabbed five rebounds. Strohman also recorded 17 points and was the game-high rebounder with nine. Mock also found double-figures with 10 points. The Lady Warriors shot 41.1 (23-56) percent from the field, but struggled at the free-throw line, going just 50.0 (12-24) percent.

Lycoming will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 14 as it travels to Widener University for another key conference match up. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
