Men’s basketball drops Commonwealth game to LVC

WILLIAMSPORT — Despite senior Greg Sye’s double-double of 10 boards and 20 points, the Warriors were unable to complete a comeback attempt against the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley Saturday afternoon at Lamade Gymnasium.

With the loss, Lycoming falls to 9-9 overall and 3-4 in the league, while LVC improves to 9-10 and 3-4 in the Commonwealth.

After finding themselves up four points early in the first half, the Warriors lost the lead at 15:20 when Dutchman Joe Meehan knocked down a three, putting LVC up 10-8. Lebanon Valley was able to keep the lead for the rest of the game, despite small runs by Lycoming.

Sophomore Sebastian Sebella cut the lead to just two as he scored a layup, getting the pass from junior Eric Anthony. The Dutchmen were able to re-build their lead, going up by as many as 16 late in the first, and taking a 40-26 advantage into the locker room.

LVC was able to keep their pace to start the second and maintain their lead. Lycoming fought back hard down the stretch, pulling within four at 2:41 when Sye put down two free throws. But the Dutchmen were able to keep the lead and finish the game up 75-68.

Sye led all-rebounders with 10, boasting nine of those on offense. Sebella was able to keep pace, knocking down 19 points. Senior Anthony Watson was big on defense, coming up with four steals.

As a team, the Warriors were able to overcome a deficit from the first half, outscoring Lebanon Valley 42-35 in the second half to keep their hopes alive.

Lycoming will be back in action this Monday when they host New Jersey City University, 7 p.m. at the Lamade Gymnasium.
