Coal Township, PA-Williamsport vs Shamokin is a rivalry that has been played for a little over 90 years, and the Millionaires have dominated. Last night, the Indians tried to change that.

Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful as the Millionaires beat the Indians 76-63 before a capacity crowd at the Shamokin Area High School gymnasium. The Millionaires are now 11-2 clinching their spot in the District 2-4 AAAA playoffs that start at the end of February. The Indians fall to 13-1 ending a 13 game winning streak.

Dontahe Jordan had a great outing scoring 23 to lead the Millionaires. Isaiah Twine added 18, and Jadiah Lynch added 15. Brent Forbes paced the Indians with 21 points, while Foster Renn added 16, and Steve Carsto added 15 for the Indians.

A crazy play started the game. The Indians won the opening tap, but Jadiag Lynch promptly stole the ball to get the Millionaires on the board 6 seconds into the game. The Indians would tie it up on a basket by Brent Fornes 24 seconds later, then they would take their first lead of the game on a foul shot by Forbes 36 seconds laater. Steve Carsto and Foster Renn would add baskets to give the Indians their biggest lead of the game at 8-4 with 5:37 left in the opening stanza. The Millionaire faithful that made the 60 mile trip to Coal Township were concerned, while the raucous Shamokin student section was going wild. The last time that the Indians held the lead was with 1:25 left in the opening period when they led the Millionaires 13-10. Then the Millionaires woke up.

The Millionaires took the lead for good on a bucket by Dontahe Jordan with 3.5 seconds left in the period. The Millionaires led 15-13 after 1 period. To most of the fans there, this game had the makings of a classic heavyweight title fight.

In the second period, the Millionaires started to open things up a little, but they could not totally seal things up by halfyime. They would have a lead as high as 12 points, and the Indians cut the deficit as close as 2 points. At halftime, the Millionaires led 36-28. The Indians were not out of it by any stretch of the imagination.

The Millionaires opened things back up in the third period. They would increase their lead as high as 18 points after the Indians rallied earlier in the period to cut the deficit to 3 points. At the turn for home, the Millionaires led 56-44. What would happen in the final period?

The Millionaires would finally salt the game away in the final period after receiving a scare from the Indians cutting the deficit to 5 points. A mini 8-0 run sealed the deal for the Millionaires.

In JV action, the Millionaires beat the indians 73-52. Travis Kerschner led the Millionaires with 15 points, while Thomas Burk added 14. Tim Bousson led the Indians with 16.

The next game for the Millionaires is Saturday, 1/24/09, when they travel to Norristown High School to play Monsignor Bonner out of Drexel Hill in the Kobe Bryant Classic.
