Lady Warriors down Wilkes

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team forced 31 turnovers en route to a 64-54 non-conference win against Wilkes on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Lamade Gymnasium.

The final box score shows Wilkes with a better shooting percentage and a large rebounding advantage, but the Lady Warriors were able to force 31 turnovers and score 29 points off turnovers to come away with the win.

Lycoming broke a 6-6 tie when Andrea Cooper (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) connected on a three-pointer with 16:21 left in the first half and the Lady Warriors would never relinquish that lead, building it to as much as 14 points in the second half.

Kaitlyn Ober (Lititz, Pa.) led the team with a near double-double of 15 points and nine rebounds. Cooper added 12 points and six rebounds and Alicia Engler (Williamsport, Pa.) finished with 10 points.

Wilkes was led by Chelsey Gosse’s double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Mackensey O’Hara added 12 points.

Wilkes finished the game shooting 37.5 percent from the field to Lycoming’s 32.9 percent and out-rebounded the Lady Warriors 50-39.

The win improves Lycoming to 11-3 overall while Wilkes evens out at 8-8.

The Lady Warriors will resume Commonwealth Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 24, when Albright travels to Lamade Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. tip.
