Hollidaysburg, PA-After an emotional 99-67 win over Central Dauphin Saturday night before returning members of the 1984 and 1999 state championship teams, who knew what to expect with the next game on the Millionaires’ schedule. The Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers have given the Millionaires some difficult games over the years.

It was not that way last night as the Millionaires crushed the Golden Tigers 84-47 last night before a sparse crowd in the Hollidaysburg Area High School gymnasium. The Millionaires are now 10-2 and need 1 more win to clinch a spot in the District 2-4 AAAA playoffs, while the Golden Tigers fall to 7-6.

Dontahe Jordan led 5 Millionaires in double figures with 18 points. Isaiah Twine and Sean Ruane each added 15, Jadiah Lynch added 12, and Codie Engel added 11 off the bench. Pat Cassidy led the Golden Tigers with 14 points, while Joel Redfoot added 11.

Before the game even started, there was a major problem for the Millionaires. Several of their visiting red uniforms were left back at Williamsport Area High School. This sent Millionaire head coach Allen Taylor scrambling. He had several of the varsity players wear different numbers that belonged to JV players that were being benched for last night’s game due to missing Monday’s practice. After that was settled, Thomas James put the Millionaires on the board 25 seconds into the game. Luke Ottaway would answer back with a 3 pointer to give the Golden Tigers the kead 24 seconds later. They would increase their lead to 3 on a basket by Jason Boland. That was their biggest and last lead of the night.

The Millionaires would tie the game at 7-7 on a 3 pointer by Isaiah Twine, and Twine would put them ahead for good with a foul shot with 5:40 left in the opening stanza. The Millionaires’ offense would open up during the period, but the Golden Tigers would not go away. After the opening period, the Millionaires led 24-17.

In the second period, the Millionaires put the gas pedal to the floor outscoring the Golden Tigers 19-6 during the period. The Millionaires had a 7-0 run in the period holding the Golden Tigers scoreless for the last 51.5 seconds of the first period and the first 5:48 of the second period until Hollidaysburg scored with 2:12 left in the half. After being held scoreless for 6:39.5, the Golden Tigers rapidly were demoralized. At halftime, the Millionaires led 43-23.

The second half was more of the same for the Millionaires outscoring the Golden Tigers 41-24 in the half. Their offense was on ccruise control in the second half, and Millionaire coach Allen Taylor was able to empty his bench to get the reserves some valuable experience. The biggest lead for the Millionaires was the final margin of 37 points.

The Millionaire JV squad did not fare as well as the varsity losing to the Golden Tigers 49-38. Luke Rhodes led the Golden Tigers with 14 points, while Codie Engel led the Millionaires with 11.

The next game for the Millionaires is Thursday, 1/22/09, when the Millionaires make the 60 mile trip to Coal Township in Northumberland County to take on the undefeated Shamokin Area Indians. Game time is the same as usual. If you are attending, please come early as a huge crowd is expected.
