YWCA of Northcentral PA Capital Campaign

In 1927, the YWCA of Northcentral PA held a capital campaign. During that one-week campaign of May 13-20th, 1927, the citizens of this incredible community raised $450,000. This would be equivalent in today’s value to nearly $5,000,000. The needs of our community are great. As we all know, what goes around comes around. By helping the people of our community who are less fortunate, we make our community and ourselves healthier, happier, and more prosperous.

In 2009, the YWCA is again reaching out to our community through a capital campaign. Our goal is $2,000,000, and our campaign slogan is One Building, Many Programs… Amazing Possibilities:
• The YWCA’s vital programs include: CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Liberty House, Prevention Education, the Warm Water Therapeutic Pool, and Wise Options.
• $1 million is for much-needed capital expenditures such as “keeping green” by bringing our building into the 21st century with state-of-the-art energy efficiency.
• $1 million will fund an endowment to provide critical annual income to help support operations and lessen our dependency on unpredictable grant income. Much of the government funding that has been available for the YWCA programs has been cancelled. We believe this trend will continue and, with the endowment, we put ourselves in a position to be more self-suffi cient as we provide these much-needed services in our community.
We believe we can prove that our community today is as committed and generous as the community was in 1927. We have a mission and a passion to help those in our community who haven’t been as fortunate we have, those who haven’t been given the opportunity to understand what success as a human being is; we’re not talking about financial success. We’re talking about the success that comes from being taught how to contribute positively to your world and make a difference in other people’s lives. That means something different to everyone but, we believe, it’s the most important need we have: to know that we’ve made a difference.
“In the end, a person is only known by the impact he has on others” (Jim Stovall, The Ultimate Gift).
Our personal challenge for you and each able citizen of Lycoming County is to help us raise $2,000,000 by May 20th, 2009. We know it’s possible. We know it can be done. The answer lies in each one of us accepting responsibility for this challenge. Check out our website at www. ywcawilliamsport.org, contact us at 570-322-4637 x159 or jgordner@ywcawilliamsport.org, or please call to talk to one of us and let us talk to you about the powerful possibilities of making your financial commitment to the YWCA campaign. Please give this invitation careful consideration. You can make a contribution on our website, by phone, or by mail. You can use securities, a direct contribution from your IRA account, checks, cash, or VISA. We absolutely believe that it IS in giving that we receive the greatest gifts of life. This is exactly what the YWCA is all about. Please open your heart and make a difference in our world.
Thank you very much for any consideration. We appreciate anything you can do.
