Lewisburg, PA-When the basketball schedule for the Williamsport Millionaires was finalized, Millionaires head coach Allen Taylor and his staff looked at today’s game with the Steelton-Highspire Steamrollers as a challenge for the Millionaires. After all, Steelton is the defending AAA state champions. But Steelton just started their regular season this past Wednesday night by beating Carlisle and also beating Cumberland Valley last night. Who knew what was going to happen this afternoon in Lewisburg?

Williamsport used another second half explosion to defeat the Steamrollers 93-61 this afternoon at the Sojka Pavilion on the campus of Bucknell University in the Sportsfever Challenge XVI. The Millionaires are now 5-1 with a 4 game winning streak, while the Steamrollers fall to 2-1.

Jadiah Lymch led the Millionaires with 26 points including 5 3 pointers. Sean Ruane added 16, and Thomas James added 11. Ryan Hill led the Steamrollers with 24 points including a 18-24 effort at the foul line. Jeff Davis added 14, and Lloyd Hill added 12.

Jeff Davis started the scoring for the Steamrollers 19 seconds into the game. Jadiah Lynch answered back with a 3 pointer 15 seconds later. Thomas James would add a foul shot to five the Millionaires a 4-2 lead. Ryan Hill would tie things up for the Steamrollers and hit the resulting foul shot to give Steelton the lead. The Millionaires would answer back with another Lynch basket, then the Steamrollers would answer back to have a 7-6 lead. That was the Steamrollers’ biggest lead of the afternoon. Later in the first period, the Millionaires would go on a 9-0 run in the period. The Steamrollers would not roll over and die, and after the first period, the Millionaires led 23-19.

The Steamrollers would take their final lead of the game on a basket by Jeff Davis with 6:51 left in the first half. The Millionaires would take the lead for good on a bucket by Shariff Monroe with 6:11 left in the half. The Millionaires would steadily increase their lead as high as 12 points in the half before the Steamrollers cut the deficit as low as 6. At halftime, the Millionaires led 41-35. Was there going to be another explosion against a team that was a defending state champion?

The answer was a resounding yes. The Millionaires would outscore the Steamrollers 52-26 in the second half. They wore down the Steamrollers with their quickness which tired Steelton out since most of their team was part of the state championship football team that beat Clairton last week for the state title. The final period saw the Millionaires outscore the Steamrollers 31-11.

The game was also a crazy foulfest with a obscene total of 53 fouls being called in the game. 30 of them were called on the Millionaires, while 23 were called on the Steamrollers. That also led to an obscene amount of foul shots. There were a total of 79 foul shots taken in the game this afternoon. The Millionaires were 30-35, while the Steamrollers were 28-44. You usually do NOT see foul totals and foul shot totals like this unless the game goes multiple overtime periods. The District 3 officials led by veteran official Jim Williamson bore the brunt of much criticism from both coaching staffs, fans, and media covering the game.

Thewre was no JV game today for the Millionaires. The next game is Tuesday, 12/23/08, when the Millionaires make the 60 mile trip to Centre County to play the State College Little Lions. Game times are the same as usual.

Linescore of the game:

Steelton-Highspire: 19-16-15-11=61
Williamsport Area: 23-18-21-31=93
