Warriors post 2-1 record at Messiah Duals

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Lycoming College wrestling team picked up wins against York College and Kutztown University at the Messiah Duals on Saturday, Nov. 22. The Warriors only loss of the tournament came against Shippensburg University.Lycoming (4-2) opened the tournament with a 19-17 win against York.

The Warriors got wins in five weight classes, led by Chris Dahlheimer and Bryan Kopesky, who each entered the tournament with unblemished 3-0 records. Dahlheimer picked up a 9-2 win at 165 pounds and Kopesky earned an 8-6 win at 197.

Michael Maurer won a major decision (9-0) at 149 pounds, Clinton Gardner pinned his opponent in 6:05 at 157 and Richard Ausem defeated his opponent 2-1 at 285.

The Warriors second match of the day was against NCAA Division II Shippensburg University. Lycoming earned three wins in the match.

Dahlheimer (5-0) and Kopesky (7-4) both remained unbeaten. Miguel Arroyo earned an 11-4 win at 141.

Lycoming rebounded after the Shippensburg loss to defeat Kutztown University, also an NCAA Division II school.

Dahlheimer and Kopseky improved to 6-0 on the season and were joined by Maurer, Zach Frederick, Daniel Snyder and Russell Korbul with wins in the match.

Maurer earned a 7-1 win at 149 and Frederick pinned his opponent in 2:57 at 157. Dahlheimer pinned his opponent in 48 seconds at 165. Snyder earned a victory at 174 after his opponent was forced to retire. Korbul won an 8-2 decision at 184 and Kopesky pinned his opponent in 1:15 at 285.

The Warriors have competed twice this season, posting 2-1 records at the Baldwin-Wallace Duals and the Messia Duals. The squad is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Brockport. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
