WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College football team earned the No. 5 seed in the East Region and will travel to the No. 4 seed, Hobart, for the opening round of the NCAA playoffs. The game will be played on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 12 p.m. in Geneva, N.Y.

First-year head coach Mike Clark, the Lycoming coaching staff and the entire Warrior football team gathered at The Lodge on Sunday afternoon to watch the selection show live on ESPNews.

The highlight of the day came when the ESPN crew gave a “shout out” to Lycoming, mentioning that they knew the Warriors were having a selection show watching party.

D3Football.com, one of the nation’s leaders in Division III football coverage, projected the Warriors at the No. 8 seed with a trip to top-ranked Mount Union earlier in the day.

The NCAA selection committee saw things differently, honoring Lycoming with the fifth seed.

Lycoming earned its first Middle Atlantic Conference title and playoff berth since 2003, finishing the season with an overall record of 7-3 and a conference mark of 5-2.

Hobart (ranked No. 23 in the nation), claimed the Liberty League title with an 8-1 overall record and a 6-1 conference mark.

The only common opponent between the Warriors and Hobart this season is Susquehanna. Lycoming defeated the Crusaders 28-16 at home on Sept. 20. Hobart earned a 27-14 win against Susquehanna the next weekend (Sept.27) at home.

Lycoming played two nationally ranked teams this year, dropping a one-point contest (17-16) to No. 18 Ithaca in the season opener, and defeating No. 22 Delaware Valley (10-7) on Oct. 25. Ithaca finished the season ranked 12th.

Hobart did not face a nationally ranked opponent this season.

The winner of the Lycoming-Hobart game will play the winner of the Mount Union-Randolph-Macon game at the higher seed.

Lycoming’s opening round game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio (WLYC). Todd Bartley, ESPN Radio’s sports director, aired the selection show live from The Lodge on Sunday.

Complete game notes, including scouting reports and depth charts for both teams, will be added to the Lycoming athletics Web site (www.lycoming.edu/athletics) throughout the week.
