WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team and first-year head coach Guy Rancourt opened their season with a 77-46 win against Penn State-Hazleton on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Lamade Gymnasium. The Warriors advance to the championship game of the Lycoming Tip-Off Tournament, where they will face Scranton.

Scranton defeated Hood College (Md.) by a score of 90-59 in the opening game of the tournament.

Hazleton kept the game close for half of the first period before the Warriors broke it open with a 16-3 run to end the half leading 36-16.

Lycoming kept that run going at the start of the second half, pushing the lead to 30 points right out of the gate. The Nittany Lions scored their first field goal of the second half at 16:54, ending a 26-3 run by the Warriors.

With the game in hand, Rancourt dipped deep into the bench, calling on 15 different players in the game.

Eric Anthony (Wheeling, W.V.) led the way with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting. He finished the game with two 3-pointers, five rebounds, two assists and one steal in 23 minutes of play.

Also scoring in double-digits for the Warriors was Will Kelly (Williamsport, Pa.), who finished the game with 13 points on 5-of-6 six shooting. He was a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc, pulled down five rebounds, handed out two assists and added two steals.

Taylor Volpe (Hughesville, Pa.) finished the game with 10 points off the bench in his Lycoming debut. He was 3-of-4 from the field, 1-of-1 from 3-point range and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.

Lycoming (1-0) shot 48.4 percent from the field to Hazleton’s (0-1) 40.0 percent. The Warriors were 31.8 percent on 3-point attempts (7-of-22) and 50 percent from the charity stripe (10-of-20).

Hazleton will play Hood in a consolation game at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, followed by the championship game at 4 p.m.

An awards presentation, including announcement of the All-Tournament team, will take place at the conclusion of the championship game.
