Lycoming College students present posters at Undergraduate Research Symposium

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College students Brittane Strahan and Allison Batties presented posters at the 11th annual Undergraduate Research Symposium Oct. 11 at the University of Maryland Baltimore County with their research advisors, Dr. Jeff Newman and Dr. Mary Morrison, both assistant professors of biology.

Strahan, a senior biology major, presented a poster describing her American Society for Microbiology-funded summer research in Newman’s lab at the College. The poster was titled ‘Isolation and Characterization of Four Novel Bacterial Species.” Strahan, a resident of Turbotville, Pa., is a graduate of Warrior Run High School. She won first place in her poster section.

Batties, a junior biology major, presented a poster describing her summer research at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. The poster was titled “Construction and Transfection of a Plasmid Expressing the Embryonic Lethal Abnormal Vision (ELAV) mRNA Binding Protein, HuR.” Batties, a resident of Royersford, Pa., is a graduate of Spring-Ford Sr. High School.
