Men’s soccer stays unbeaten in conference with shutout over Etown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team improved to 9-3-1 overall and remained unbeaten in the Commonwealth Conference (3-0) with a 2-0 shutout win against Elizabethtown on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The Warriors got on the board in the 29th minute when Mike Coates (Washington, N.J.) took a pass from Chris Burgess (Bel Air, Md.) and beat the keeper for his fourth goal of the season.

Lycoming added a second goal at the beginning of the second half when Chris Lorenzet (Forest Hill, Md.) netted his team-leading 11th goal of the season off an assist from Burgess in the 48th minute.

David Bald (Annapolis, Md.) improved to 9-2-1 in goal and registered his eighth shutout of the season. The Warrior defense did not allow Elizabethtown (3-8-2, 0-3-0 Commonwealth) to get a single shot on goal in the contest.

The Warriors held advantages of 9-6 in total shots and 4-0 in shots on goal. The Blue Jays posted a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Lycoming will travel to Messiah on Saturday, Oct. 18, for a critical conference match. The Warriors sit second in the standings with a 3-0 mark. Messiah, ranked No. 5 in the nation, was upset by league-leading Lebanon Valley (4-0) on Wednesday to drop to third in the conference.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
