Lycoming College to recognize Alcohol Awareness Week Oct. 13-17

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College has planned a variety of activities in recognition of Alcohol Awareness Week Oct. 13-17 to help educate members of the campus community about the negative effects of high-risk drinking. The activities are also designed to promote healthy decision-making, encourage conversations about abstinence and moderate drinking, and raise awareness of current trends. Activities include demonstrations, interactive exhibits and opportunities to meet with professional staff from various agencies regarding alcohol awareness and safety.

The week’s activities include:

DUI Wrecked Car display
A wrecked car will be on campus during the week to help make community members aware of the dangers associated with driving under the influence. The car will be placed on the north side of the Academic Center.

Memory Wall
Many members of the college community have lost loved ones to the harmful effects of alcohol. The Memory Wall will be a place to honor and remember. Students will have the opportunity to share a personal message on the wall. The Memory Wall will be displayed in various locations around the campus throughout the week.

Party 101
Tuesday, Oct. 14
8-10 p.m.
Recreation Center
This event is planned to be fun-and educational.

Activities include:
A live drinking demonstration coordinated by the Lycoming County DUI task force
A coffin display
Date rape awareness
A vandalism display
A RAD display
The BAC table
Stomach pumping display
Myths vs. facts game
Valuable information provided by the Lycoming County Adult Probation Office, Wise Options/YWCA, MADD, AIDS Resource Alliance, and a Safenet nurse from Susquehanna Health.
