Bierbach and Murren earn MAC honors

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lycoming College football players Ray Bierbach and Kyle Murren earned Middle Atlantic Conference weekly honors for their performance in the Warriors’ 34-17 win against Bridgewater on Sept. 27. Bierbach was named the Special Teams Player of the Week while Murren was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Bierbach, a freshman from Hunlock Creek, Pa., took over the starting punt returning duties from an injured Josh Dixon (Fleetville, Pa.). He totaled 86 yards on four punt returns, including a 59-yard touchdown return. He also had one kick return for five yards and made four tackles on special teams.

Murren, a junior from Hughesville, Pa., led a stifling defensive effort by the Warriors. He finished second on the team in total tackles with seven while recording 2.0 sacks (minus 16 yards) and 3.5 tackles for a loss (minus 19 yards). The Warriors held Bridgewater to just 35 total yards in the first half and a total of 163 yards in the game. The defense was also credited with eight sacks (2.5 for Chris Tribanas (Lansdale, Pa), 2.0 for Matt Licci (Drexel Hill, Pa.), 1.0 for Dan Cassidy (Downingtown, Pa.) and 0.5 for Ted Geurds (Douglassville, Pa.).

Lycoming, 2-1 on the season, will open its MAC schedule on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Widener. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
