Lady Warriors finish Elizabethtown Tournament with two losses

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Lycoming College volleyball team dropped two matches at the Elizabethtown Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 27. The Lady Warriors fell 3-1 against Widener and 3-2 against Wilkes.

Lycoming (8-10) dropped the first match of the day in four sets (25-10, 23-25, 25-5, 25-20) against Widener, a Commonwealth Conference opponent. The match will not count toward the conference record for either team.

Freshman Veronica Clair (Palmyra, N.Y.) led the Lady Warriors with eight kills in 21 attempts for a .333 hitting percentage. Heather Frantz (Pine Grove, Pa.) had seven kills and a team-high 21 digs. Katie Johnson (Newville, Pa.) finished with four kills in nine attempts for a hitting percentage of .444. Amy Sharlow (Fair Lawn, N.J.) handed out 13 assists while Abby Myers (Shippensburg, Pa.) added 10 assists. Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa.) recorded 19 digs and Alyssa Taylor (Camp Hill, Pa.) added 12 digs and four service aces.

The Lady Warriors finished the match with 32 kills in 150 attempts for a .093 hitting percentage.

In the second match of the day, Wilkes defeated Lycoming in five sets (23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 15-5).

Beth Machella (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) led the team with 11 kills in 30 attempts for a .300 hitting percentage. Frantz had nine kills and 20 digs. Megan Schulze (Reedsville, Pa.) added six kills in nine attempts for a .444 hitting percentage and also blocked five shots. Abel was credited with 20 digs while Sharlow added 16 digs and led the team in assists with 18. Myers added 15 assists and two aces.

The team finished the game with 42 kills in 150 attempts for a hitting percentage of .153.

The Lady Warriors return home on Wednesday, Oct. 1, for a conference match against Messiah. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
