Dear transportation partners, please be advised that due to the ongoing roadway modernization project along Traffic Route 15 between Trout Run and Buttonwood in northern Lycoming County, Traffic Route 15 is currently limited to a single lane in each direction for most of the distance between Trout Run and the summit of Steam Valley Mountain (to the north).In the northbound direction especially, if a tractor trailer jack-knifes in the single-lane section heading up the mountain, as occurred during a snowstorm last week, it effectively blocks all travel in that direction.
In light of these current lane restrictions, PennDOT strongly urges truckers to consider using chains during storms this winter before proceeding north of Trout Run on Route 15. This is advised especially if their vehicles are not equipped with mud or snow tires having an aggressive tread pattern.
In addition, PennDOT maintenance forces are providing extra attention to this section of Traffic Route 15 to minimize any winter-related storm delays.
